本題為一個純考文法的題目，考的文法概念是「詞性」與「動詞時態」，詞性的部份，你只需要辨認本題的句型為： 

After + S + V…, S +       ….

你就可以知道空格應該填一個動詞，但選項中有兩個動詞(A) formulate和(B) formulated，到底要選哪一個呢？這時候就牽涉到「動詞時態」概念，我們在看一次句型： 

After + S + found…, S +       …. 

如果你注意到found是一個過去式動詞，你就了解空格也是在描述過去，因此應選(B) formulated為正確答案。

另外值得一提的是這題出現了一個過去完成式had given…，它是用來強調這個動作比另一個過去的動作found還要早發生。

formulate表「制定；發展」，英文解釋為to develop something such as a plan or a set of rules, and decide all the details of how it will be done，是一個常見的動詞，請大家務必熟記。

本題為一個出題頻率極高的文法題，在考大家對於「連接詞」與「介系詞」的用法區別，如果你了解以下的用法，那你應該可以輕鬆得分。 

介系詞 + N…, S + V….

連接詞 + S + V…, S + V….

由於空格後出現的是名詞結構the successful summer season，所以空格要填一個介系詞，選項中有(C) Due to和(D)Despite兩個介系詞，這時開始牽涉到語意的問題了，(C) Due to表「因為」，是用來表達「因果關係」，(D) Despite表「儘管、雖然」，是用來表達「相反關係」。考量句中出現successful和doesn’t think he can afford這樣一正一反的描述，因此答案選(D) Despite。

Wing在這指的是「建築物的一部份」。
